I am Sébastien Zany, a French and English freelance sports journalist. 

 

I grew up and went to school in France, and throughout my education process, I had the opportunity to complete work experience placements at various local and national media organisations (France 3, BeIN Sports...), which allowed me to discover and practice journalism early on! After obtaining by French Baccalaureate (A-level equivalent) with a distinction, I was accepted to study on the BA (Hons) Sports Journalism degree at Solent University in Southampton.

The course at Solent was the best place I could have wished for to develop my skills as a journalist and make good contacts. I was able to complete more work experience placements during my time at Uni. The organisations I worked for include RMC Sport, Federation Francaise de Tennis (Roland Garros) and Cornilleau. In fact, following a one week placement at RMC Sport, I landed a freelance position as a UK correspondent covering Premier League and Champions League football. In the course of my final year at university, I spent a considerable amount of time working on two projects which both received a First grade. The first project was my dissertation which was centered on the compatibility of football television rights with the modern culture of streaming content. The second project was a 10 minute video documentary called "From Ping-Pong to Table Tennis" which received an A1 grade and won the 2020 BJTC Award for "Best TV Sports Journalism". After a final year marked by the Covid-19 outbreak, I was honoured to graduate with a First Class Honours degree in August 2020.

 

After one season working for RMC, I was lucky to start a collaboration with Canal+ who were the new right holders for the PL in France. Since September 2019 I have been an on-screen reporter for Canal+, taking responsibility for post and pre match lives from Premier League stadiums as well as conducting post match and ICS interviews. This is currently my main weekly activity.
